COVID-19 Fight: Inside Jumia “Contactless safe Delivery” — Lifestyle UG
Jumia launches “Contactless” Delivery and “Cashless” Payments in response to the COVID-19 in Africa
The Jumia e-commerce platform’s contactless and ‘cashless’ payment and delivery methods provide riders and customers with safer transactions.
Jumia has today announced the launch of ‘contactless’ delivery for prepaid product packages on Africa’s leading eCommerce platform.
After the COVID-19 outbreak, the company takes special steps to protect customers, vendors and partners.
The “Contactless safe delivery” option from Jumia was introduced via MTN Mobile Money to drive the initiative.
This allows consumers to make online prepaid payments for products and to receive it without direct contact or a cash exchange with the supplier (delivery agent).
“The health and safety of our customers and delivery agents is our absolute priority. We are uniquely positioned to step up and be part of Africa’s response strategy in this challenging time. We have implemented a “Contactless” delivery option, which eliminates any possibility of physical contact. Convenience, social distancing and cashless measures are woven into one solution to combat the current situation.”
said Apoorva Kumar, SVP Logistics at Jumia.
During delivery, Jumia delivery agents were trained to implement the necessary standards.
When they arrive at customers and drop the package at their doorstep, they are told to call or text, and then walk back to the safe distance limit and wait for the customer to take the package before he leaves.
Consumers are strongly encouraged to use MTN mobile money to pay ‘cashless’ with Jumia.
This will make fewer resources available to retailers and the general public and help reduce the risk of the transmission of coronavirus.
The “Contactless” payment option is available on all contactless, cashless methods like MTN Mobile Money.
